Getting into Homewood School
How places at Homewood are decided, and what the school does and does not test, for entry in September 2027.
Homewood is not a Kent Test school. It runs its own assessment for the 20 per cent of places given on ability, 60 students chosen on their scores. Sitting it is optional, and a child who opts out is still ranked on the other criteria. The date, format and mark are not published, so ask the school.

How places are decided
300 places for September 2027. Reaching the required standard puts a child in the running; this order decides the rest.
Catchment: No catchment area. Any child may apply. The only geographic rule is straight-line distance from home to the school, used as the last of the oversubscription criteria when places run short.
Before the oversubscription criteria are applied, children with a statement of special educational needs or an education, health and care plan naming the school are admitted and the Planned Admission Number is reduced accordingly.

- 1.children in local authority care or children previously in local authority care;
- 2.20% of the intake admitted with reference to ability or aptitude, which the policy's definitions section fixes at 60 students selected on the scores achieved in an assessment all applicants are invited to sit, with ties at the 20% percentile broken by criteria (c) then (d);
- 3.current family association, meaning a brother or sister attending the school when the child starts, including natural, adopted, step and foster siblings living in the same house;
- 4.all other children by distance from the school, measured in a straight line from the home address to a fixed school address point using the National Land and Property Gazetteer, following the Kent admissions process. Applicants who opt not to sit the assessment are ranked under (a), (c) and (d) only. Children of multiple births are all offered places even if that takes the school past its PAN, and the PAN then stays unchanged until a place falls back within it. Late Year 7 applications and applications to Years 8 to 11 are ranked on (a), (c) and (d) only, so the ability or aptitude route does not apply to them.
A block of flats counts as a single address point, and where two children in the same block are otherwise equal the last place is drawn randomly.
What an EHCP is: an Education, Health and Care Plan, a legal document from your council for a child with special educational needs. Where a plan names a school, that school has to offer a place, so those places are taken out of the number above before anyone else is ranked. It is not a route most families can apply through.
