The test
Latymer sits the GL Assessment 11+.
GL Assessment sets the 11+ for most grammar schools in England, including this one. Papers are multiple-choice, and scores are age-standardised: children born at different points in the school year are marked against slightly different scales, so a summer-born child isn’t disadvantaged. Because GL is the most widely used format, familiarisation materials and practice papers in the same style are easy to come by.
Because GL is multiple-choice and age-standardised, the two things that move a score are accuracy under time pressure and covering every question type rather than the comfortable ones. PlusProgress practice is adaptive across English, Maths, Verbal and Non-Verbal Reasoning, so it keeps finding the types your child is weakest on instead of rewarding what they already do well, and mock papers follow the format this school sets. Progress is reported as a standardised age score, the same scale the school will use.
Three papers in one day: GL Maths and Verbal Reasoning, 30 minutes each, then a 60 minute English paper the school sets and marks itself, half reading questions and half creative writing. Only applicants in the top 700 on Maths and Verbal Reasoning have their English marked at all.
How places are decided
192 places for September 2027. Reaching the required standard puts a child in the running; this order decides the rest.
Catchment: Yes, and it is a hard boundary: only children living in the listed postcodes are admitted. The list runs E2, E4, E5, E8, E9, E17, EN1 to EN5, EN8 and N1 to N22, with parts of EN5, EN8 and N1 left out. Residence is checked as at 7 January 2027.

- 1.Looked after children and previously looked after children. The threshold for this criterion is the top 900 applicants on the combined age-standardised Verbal Reasoning and Mathematics score; qualifying children have their English paper marked, and there is no limit on the number admitted under this criterion. Children in this category do not have to live in the Inner Area.
- 2.Universal Credit or Free School Meals. Also thresholded at the top 900 on combined Verbal Reasoning and Mathematics, applicants must live in the Inner Area and upload evidence at registration, and the number admitted is capped at 20.
- 3.Music places. Thresholded at the top 700 on combined Verbal Reasoning and Mathematics, applicants must live in the Inner Area, complete a separate music form with evidence of musical standard, and the number admitted is capped at 20.
- 4.Applicants resident in the Inner Area, in rank order.
- 5.Applicants resident outside the published criteria will not be considered until resident within the Inner Area. Ties for the last place are broken first in favour of pupil premium applicants ranked in the top 900 who have not already been offered under that category, then applicants showing musical ability ranked in the top 700 who have not already been offered under that category, then those living closest to the school by local authority measurement. Designated grammar schools must not give priority to siblings or former pupils, and Latymer confirms it does not.

This is based on how pupils at this school go on to perform in their GCSEs, five years after the 11+. Attainment 8 is their average result across eight subjects.
